- UKCA applies to England, Wales and Scotland UKCA mark is similar in nature to the CE mark. If you could self-declare as part of your CE declaration, then you will be able to self-declare for your UKCA mark. Products that were covered for sale into the EU that are now being sold into the UK (England, Wales and Scotland) will require a UKCA mark. Currently the industry is in a transition period until January 1,2022. Any new products that was not marked with a CE mark is currently required to have a UKCA mark as of January 1, 2021 and is in effect today. Areas of self-declaration typically include EMC compatibility; Toy Safety Regulations, 2021; some class 1 Medical Devices; Category 1 pressure equipment; Electrical Equipment Safety Regulations, 2016 and Category 1 for PPE (Personnel Protective Equipment). The Products above may have the UKCA mark affixed to the product of accompanying documents until January 1. 2023 expect for those products falling under special rules. The good news is that the current harmonized standards for the EU are being utilized in marking product with the UKCA mark. These standards may change and will need to be verified before placing product on the market. For example, a standard the was IEC may now have a prefix of BSI.
